Membership
The Stationers’ Company stands out among the older livery companies in that 85% of its members are involved with the modern industries descended from the original trades which formed the guild in 1403.
Often referred to as “the five Ps” – the £70bn sector of publishing, printing, papermaking, packaging and “products” (stationery) – the modern trades provide a pool of 5,000 or so companies from which membership is drawn. Full membership by individuals is limited to 476 ‘Liverymen’, and an unlimited number of ‘Freemen’ who are mainly of management and often board level.
What does “membership” mean?
Through The Stationers’ Company, members are offered a unique opportunity to share in the life and traditions of the City of London, to further the interests of the sector we represent and to meet with the many leaders of the industries we cover. The Company holds many events each year to encourage networking and information exchange.
“Anyone who is leading these important industries today would benefit from being a member”
Rupert Murdoch, CEO, News Corporation and Liveryman of The Stationers’ Company
