Taking a book from pitch to publication: the author - agent - editor relationships
When: Tuesday 22nd February 2022 at 6pm
Duration: 1hr 15 mins
Building on the successful Stationers’ literary evenings, we are delighted to welcome Liveryman Ella Kahn to uncover how the roles of author/agent and editor work.
In May 2022, author Sandra Lawrence’s brilliant historical biography of Ellen Ann Willmott, the pioneering Victorian gardener, will be published by Manilla Press (Bonnier Books). The result of five years’ work delving into a newly rediscovered archival treasure trove, the book offers a new interpretation of Miss Willmott’s life and achievements, re-establishing her legacy as one of Victorian England’s most inspiring trailblazers. In this panel event, Sandra will be joined by her literary agent, Ella Kahn, and her editor, Susannah Otter, for a look behind-the-scenes at the process of taking a book from pitch to publication. From archival research and developing a book proposal, to writing, editing, cover design and marketing, their discussion will explore the dynamics of the relationship between author, agent, and editor and a fascinating insight into the life of a remarkable historical figure.
