Tuesday, 21 February was Shrove Tuesday and as usual the Company marked the imminent start of Lent with a service at St Faith's Chapel, St Paul's Cathedral followed by Cakes and Ale back at Stationers' Hall as provided for in the will of Past Master John Norton .

What a pleasure to have Stationers back on the slopes skiing for the Company in the 2023 Inter Livery Ski Championship. The 2021 event was cancelled well in advance, 2022 just a few weeks before we were due to go but this year took place as normal. The 12th time it had been held and the 11th with Stationers’ participation.

Archivist Dr Ruth Frendo was delighted to accept an invitation to a Scholars’ Lunch at West Dean College, an annual event where the College invites bursary-givers to visit and see the work they’re funding. Over the years, the Stationers’ Foundation has bestowed Major Awards and Francis Mathew Scholarships to several conservation students at West Dean. West Dean College is a Gothic Revival mansion nestling in a vast estate on the South Downs, West Dean House provides an idyllic retreat where students can devote themselves to mastering their craft. This hugely-successful event, organised by the Livery Committee, was in aid of the Stationers' Hall Charity and included a grand auction and the drawing of a raffle. It ended with the singing of Auld Lang Syne which is Burns's most famous work. However prior to that the evening was filled with much scottish tradition and, obviously, fun.
