The Stationers’ Foundation

The Foundation was formed in 2007, amalgamating all the Stationers charities which had developed over time. It became a CIO in 2022.
Today it distributes around £400,000 a year in grants towards education and welfare. The Stationers’ Foundation’s charity number is 1198494.
The Foundation’s mission is:
To promote and support education in the communication and content industries
To provide financial assistance and care to those who work or have worked in our industries and their dependents in time of need
To support the Royal Marines and other defence units and the charities of the Lord Mayor and the City of London

The Company’s involvement in training and education began around 1557 when apprenticeship indentures were drawn up by the Stationers and printing houses were obliged to present their apprentices at Stationers’ Hall, for a fee of sixpence, during their first year.
In 1861, the Company opened the first Stationers’ School to benefit the children of Liverymen and Freemen of the Company. A larger school followed but closed down in 1984.
In 2014, the Company formally linked the Leigh Academy Trust to assist in the running ofCrown Woods Academy in Eltham. Following ten successful years, the school was renamed the Leigh Stationers’ Academy. In the same year, 2024, links with Eastcote Primary School were established and renamed Leigh Stationers’ Primary Academy.
