An uplifting service followed by the chance to meet old friends and new. This event is for Liverymen and Freemen (Freemen may bring one guest only).
For many this occasion is one of the most special in the Company calendar. The Richard Johnson Service, known as the ‘Bubble Service’, at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street is followed by a lunch with the Court at Stationers’ Hall. At the lunch, we celebrate our association with the Royal Marines Corps by awarding three Stationers' trophies to three Royal Marines.
The service will begin at 11.30 am at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street. You are requested to be seated by 11.15 am. The preacher this year will be the former Bishop of Norwich, The Rt Rev’d Graham James, who will, as requested by Richard Johnson in his Last Will & Testament, take on the topic of Vita Humana Bulla Est (Life is a Bubble) for his sermon. The music at the Bubble Service, provided by the excellent choir of St Bride’s, is always wonderful and features, amongst more sacred anthems, the popular I’m forever blowing bubbles.
Following the service, pre-lunch drinks will be served in the garden from 12.30 pm to 1.00 pm. Lunch will consist of a three-course meal with wines and coffee, and should finish by 2.45 pm. When the Hall reaches capacity, the Stock Room will be used for lunch tables. Places in the Hall will be given on a first come, first served basis. We will inform you if there is a chance of your booking being seated in the Stock Room.
