The very first edition of Shakespeare's Collected plays, known today as the First Folio, went on sale on Wednesday, 8th November 1623 following its registration at The Worshipful Company of Stationers. It was the first printed folio to exclusively contain plays and is considered one of the most influential books ever published.
Join fellow Stationers and our friends from the Grocers' Company (Heminges and Condell, editors of the first folio were Grocers) and guests for an unforgettable evening of Shakespearean magic as we pay tribute to the legendary playwright and the team of Stationers, apprentices, compositors that helped put together the First Folio.
Immerse yourself in the world of the Bard with live performances by acclaimed actors from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre - they will perform short scenes from Shakespeare as well as a new playlet about the registration of the First Folio at Stationers’ Hall on 8th November 1623, 400 years ago (nearly) to the day.
There will also be mesmerizing music by a 6 Piece Globe Musical Ensemble that will accompany your three course dinner and transport you back in time to the Elizabethan era.
The champagne reception will take place in the Court Room at 6.30pm. Following this, a Re-enactment of the Registration will take place. At 7.20pm, a three-course dinner will be served in the Hall with performance interludes from the saved plays. Carriages will be at 11.00 pm.
This will be a very popular event so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets are £90 including VAT per head. The deadline for booking is Monday, 30 October 2023, after which no refunds will be given.
