STATIONER JON AND THE SUCCESS STORY ABOUT STUFF

30 SEPTEMBER 2025

Stationer Jon and the success story about Stuff

Members of the Stationers Company were among invited guests to attend the official book launch of fellow Court Assistant and Liveryman Jon Drori’s new Children's book “The Stuff that Stuff is Made of”.

The UK launch at the prestigious Daunts store in Marylebone coincided with the publication of the book in Australia, New Zealand, mainland Europe and North America. It is predicted that it will be a best seller for Christmas.

Jon showed his passion for plants as he spoke to the store which was packed with more than 100 guests for the launch. The book brings to life the science of plants, revealing how these worlds are entwined with our own. The book aimed at children of all ages tells that there is seaweed in ice cream, cork in spacecraft and dandelion in truck tyres.

Jon’s previous books “Around the World in 80 Trees” and “Around the World in 80 Plants” have received critical acclaim and high sales.

Jon said: “The Stuff that Stuff is Made Of is my first book for children.

“My hope is to inspire young people’s (and their tame adults’) delight in the natural world, encourage curiosity about plants and respectful relationships with them. It’s a mix of botany and other science, history, culture and folklore.

“It’s about the things we make from plants, how they’re made and why different species have evolved with qualities that are so handy for us. From crop plants and timber woods to the daft things that people do with, and in, pumpkins.

“From the troubling histories of cotton and sugar cane to why there’s dandelion latex in truck tyres and coconut charcoal in the International Space Station (to absorb astronauts’ wind). And of course, how paper is made, on some of the most colossal machines in the world.”

All UK proceeds are going to Kew and the WWF. Jon is also a long-time supporter of The Woodland Trust.

Members of The Stationers Company have an opportunity to meet Jon and buy a copy of the book at a Literary Lunch on NOVEMBER 25, when proceeds will go to The Stationer’s Hall Charity.
