Micropress Printers Ltd has strengthened its postpress capabilities with an investment in new HEIDELBERG equipment: a TH82-P Stahlfolder and a StackStar C. The investment follows a recent increase in press capacity and is designed to ensure that the company’s folding capabilities can keep pace with higher production output.
“We’ve recently ramped up our press capacity, and folding had become our bottleneck,” said Rob Cross, Joint Managing Director at Micropress. “This investment is about bringing our folding capacity in line with what the presses can output.”
The new TH82-P will replace an older folder and is expected to approximately double output compared with the machine it replaces. Micropress Printers Ltd already operates a bank of TH82-P folders and chose to invest in the latest generation, based on positive experience with the technology.
“Our existing TH82-P folders have been really productive for us, so we know the technology is proven and reliable,” said Cross. “This is the latest generation, and we’re keen to see how the improvements HEIDELBERG has made deliver for us.”
The investment also introduces the StackStar C robotic stacking system to Micropress Printers Ltd for the first time. While the business already uses robotic technology from other manufacturers to support its folding operations, the team first saw the StackStar C at drupa 2024 and was keen to explore the HEIDELBERG solution.
“We’ve already got robotics from other manufacturers taking off our folders, but we first saw the StackStar C at drupa,” said Cross. “We’re looking forward to seeing how it compares with our existing technology. It carries the HEIDELBERG badge, so we’re hoping for good things!”
The production team has also responded positively to the investment. Familiarity with the TH82-P technology has enabled a quick transition, while the StackStar C brings new technology for the team to learn and integrate into its workflow.
“Our staff are already familiar with the TH82-P style of technology, so it’s been a quick and easy transition on that front,” said Cross. “There’s a learning curve with the StackStar C, but, as always, the team is pleased that we’re continuing to invest in the latest technology.”
For customers, the investment will help Micropress Printers Ltd maintain the service, quality and competitive pricing on which it has built its offering, while ensuring postpress production keeps pace with increased press output.
“It all comes back to what we’re about: great service and quality at competitive prices,” concluded Cross. “This investment gives us the capacity and efficiency we need to keep delivering on that.”
“We are delighted that Micropress has once again chosen HEIDELBERG to support its continued growth and operational development. As press productivity increases, it is essential that post-press capabilities keep pace, and this investment in the latest-generation Stahlfolder TH82-P demonstrates Micropress’s commitment to maintaining a highly efficient, future-focused production environment. We would like to thank Rob & James Cross and the entire Micropress team for their continued trust in HEIDELBERG. We look forward to supporting their business as they build on their success and strengthen their production capabilities for the future.” said Ryan Miles, Managing Director, HEIDELBERG UK.
