The charity Reading Force was set up – by Stationer Rev’d Professor Alison Baverstock MBE – to keep military families connected through shared-reading during times of uncertainty. Over the past 15 years the charity has circulated over 250,000 reading scrapbooks to military families worldwide, as well as providing books and other resources to support connection. Through constant monitoring they have been able to demonstrate that involvement strengthens family ties, supports resilience and wellbeing, and promotes positive mental health. The charity is grateful for having in the past been awarded a grant by the Stationers Company towards their work.

On Armistice Eve, Tuesday 10th November, the charity will be hosting a very special evening in the Prince Consort’s Library in Aldershot. Valerie Singleton OBE and Janet Ellis MBE will both read from a specially selected programme of poems and prose related to war. A similar evening was held last year, and the evening was so poignant and memorable that we were asked to run it again. Do please support this fundraising venture to keep military families connected through shared-reading. Just 60 places are available. A link to secure a ticket (for a donation) is here: A special celebration on Armistice Eve Tickets, Tuesday, November 10  •  6 PM – 7:30 PM | Eventbrite
