How do we protect and nurture children’s imaginations, giving them the confidence to find their voices and the tools to shape their words into stories they are proud to share?

This question lies at the heart of Scoplings, which I founded to give children the space to imagine, create and connect, and discover how imaginations can spark each other.

Our first analogue school pilot, the Imagination Exchange, supported by the English Association, is now beginning across primary schools in the UK.

One story. Four imaginations. Children create stories together, each inheriting and developing another child’s imagination.

I’m particularly interested in the circle of reading, listening and writing. A child reads another child’s words, discovers a different perspective, feels inspired and adds something of their own. The story passes on, and the circle begins again.

Without marking or competition, I hope to explore the conditions in which children’s imaginations can flourish, and the confidence and pride that come from having their words read, valued and taken seriously by their peers.

The first Imagination Exchange boxes have now arrived in schools, and I’m so excited to discover what happens when children are given the space to inspire one another.
