5 JULY 2021
Delayed by almost a month and meeting in accordance with Covid regulations a limited number of Stationers gathered at St Bride's for the annual Richard Johnson Service.
It was good to see the Master taking his rightful place in the traditional ceremonial of the Company albeit somewhat separated from his Court and Wardens.
The service followed the usual format with readings from the books of Job and Revelation, superb singing from the Choir of St Bride's (including the Bubble Anthem) and a sermon on the theme of Vita Humana Bulla Est from the Revd Lucy Winkett, Rector of St James’s Church Piccadilly. The Clerk read out the names of those members who have died during the last two years (last year's service having been cancelled becasue of Covid-19) and the Chaplain, the Revd Canon Dr Alison Joyce, led the prayers.
There was a lunch at Haberdashers' Hall after the service and, while recognising that it wasn't quite the same as a reception in our garden, members enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in the garden at Haberdashers'.
